JD2 bender 1 3/4" capacity

Hi all

JD's website lists the capacities for my bender with a 1 3/4" die at 120 thou (3mm) wall thickness.

Does any body know if that applies for 4130 chromoly as well or would it be less? What is the strength difference as a percentage between 350MPA and 4130?

Does any one have any real life experience maxxing out the JD2 on chromolly in 1 3/4"? I'm possibly going to be bending up a tube chassis extension for someone and i was thinking of going the heaviest that my bender can handle just for the rails. (it's a decently large truck).

Never mind the strength difference, i found a few sources that state it to be about 650Mpa which makes it about 85 percent stronger/tougher to bend. Is that a fair assessment?

Are their limits designed around the manual or hydro versions?

Would depend on bar or ram capacity. Bender limits would be against its own components. I'm guessing its a jd2 32? Call taz and ask if you got off him I'm sure he will help.

Hi mate

I think it's a 32, i bought it privately so no idea where it came from. I'm also stuck on a rig overseas so calling's a bit tough.

The jd32 can bend up to 6mm wall on anything under 2 inch
So at a guess you should be right.

I can only comment on model 4 hydro, but my biggest issue if any is bending too thin a wall due to my tighter CLR dies. Never had a problem with Chromo up to 2". I have kinked 2" due to only being 0.095" wall & tighter CLR.

Thanks guys

I'm by the sounds of it, 1.75 OD and 3mm wall in 4130 should get there. Any heavier and i might have to get a test piece so i can try it out.

Cheers all

Weather its a Model 3 or 32, it'll bend 3.0mm 1.75" no problems, Mild or 4130.

LARGE CAPACITY - Bends round tubing and pipe from 1/2" to 2 1/2" O.D. and square tubing from 1/2" to 1-1/2". This bender is rated to bend 2" o.d. x .250" wall DOM steel tubing. Also capable of solid steel up to 1 1/2" diameter.NOTE: To bend round tubing over 2" o.d. x .120" wall, square tubing over 1 1/2" or solids over 1" diameter requires hydraulics.

Just to correct a comment above, a model 32 will only bend 2" .120" / 3.0m wall Manually, Hydraulics are required to bend heavier than 3.0mm if using 2" OD.

Even if you didn't buy the JD product of us at OPW, still give a us a call with questions like this one. That's what we are here for!

Cheers
Pete

Pete that is bloody awesome and a great offer. I didn't want to be "that guy" who pesters a vendor for info about a product he didn't buy from them :D

Mine is Manual. Although if i can find a cheap mexican to do the work for me i'll convert it to "Manuel-ly operated" :D

I'm mainly after the failure limits of the equipment itself, as to get more power on the handle, Milo can just get a bigger handle  Although i guess once you start cranking that baby with 20 foot cheater handle i think i might be taking the piss

Swag off-road do a nice hydro adapter for a decent price if you are doing a lot of bends.

Very interesting. Was there anything to indicate that it wasn't happy?

Not at all, Nb pipe is a tad softer than tube I believe but still had no issue what so ever
