Hey guys I know this will have been covered plenty of times but I can't decide on wether to go 33 or 35 inch tyres on my hilux
It's a 1990 single cab
For starters I'm not worried about moving the diff cutting guards etc to get tyres to fit
I tend to do alot of off road work and I like to play hard with all types of terrains
What will gearing be like on 35's ? And what are people's opinions on the sizes?
Cheers inbits

I'd go 4.88 diff gears from the 4.3's. Maybe a turbo would be good to push the 35's.

Planning on forced induction however I have just been given a supercharger for free so I may go that way with a good intercooler setup
What are hilux axles etc like when running 35's?

CV's won't last long offroad. Need to go something like "Dirty 30's" will do for 35's. Cheaper than Longfields. Go Longfields if you are planning to go bigger in the future. 4.88 diff gears will bring ya speedo back to something close to standard and give ya better gearing. Rear axles will be fine. Will also need to get wheel spacers or large offset wheels. It will flex and the rear will hit the chasis rails.

I got 5.29 with a turbo and 35s just installed a IFS diff as tyre wa hitting rails. Twin locked and didn't do any axles or cvs but I was only playing in the mud haven't tried hills yet. I was getting slight rubbing on rear arch of
Gauges but just tap the sills with a gringet and should be right. Offset rims in the front or you'll get tyres rubbing on spring pack.

I had, turbo 4.3 gears 33's twin locked.
I drove it pretty hard and everything stayed in one piece. only once did i find a track i couldn't navigate 'due to tyre size' and 35's would not have helped.
I bolted on some 35's and came to the following conclusion.
35's IMO require a huge amount of extra work and parts making it only worth while if you need 35's for your terrain.
gears $
Tyres $
offset $
Axels $
CV's $
Cutting guards
police bait
braking power diminished
If you want a weapon, a lux twin locked on 35's with the right power and gearing will do alot of scary stuff but it is a much bigger project than just tyres and guards.

G'day,
There isn't a whole lot more you could do with 35's than with 35's considering all the extra cost and effort. Good call on the 33's and lockers, should make it alot of fun.
Cheers, Stubbs

I ended up with a set of 34 simexs and I'm happy with my purchase I'm getting better fuel economy and gearing isnt that bad off road
All I had to do was hammer the seam in the front wheel arches to get them on with out scrubbing

i run 33s with 4.88s and my speedo is tested @ 100% correct, twin locked and fully engineered, it goes EVERYWHERE all my mates twin locked hiluxes on 35s go, IMO 35s are a not needed
