2 vehicles blowing smoke after a bog hole

I'm hoping someone can help with this... we have 2 vehicles displaying all the same symptoms after getting stuck in bog holes in Wombat State Forest the other week. Both of us have gone to our respective mechanics who have offered no conclusions. One vehicle is running a VN V8 with a snorkel, the other a carburetted Holden V8 no snorkel. The bog holes were both a few inches above the door sils... Deep enough to get the carpet wet but certainly not the deepest bog hole I've been through.

Now, both engines are blowing smoke under deceleration (enough that I was engulfed in a cloud of blue / white smoke as I pulled up at the lights) Both engines used about 1.5L of oil driving between 50 - 100km after the off road session. They both have some noise coming from the valves and the older engine is struggling to make oil pressure (I don't have an oil pressure gauge on the VN) The older engine developed these symptoms very soon after the bog hole, mine did another 100km before they became evident. The older engine had a full reco 5 years ago and doesn't get driven much at all (rarely used weekend toy) The VN was reco'd 6 years ago and has been a daily driver but I only do a low mileage.

Any thoughts / ideas no matter how obscure would be greatly appreciated... Given that 2 engines have identical symptoms, there must be a logical explanation!!!

Thanks

Check that the oil hasn't been contaminated. I've seen grooves worn in crank pulleys where the engine was left running in bog holes, which then filled the sump with muddy water, which is then pumped through the engine and wears everything in the engine, so low oil pressure and smoke.

get some LUCAS oil additive and put that in as it will do wonders to your motor
i put some in an old petrol hilux i used to have (it used oil, was heavy on fuel, not much power, blew smoke) and when i put the lucas oil additive in it used less oil used less fuel gained power and stopped smoking completely

^^ This is very likely.

I have seen many engines ingest mud, dirty water etc. All end badly.

Cheers,

Mick

hot engine , straight into a cold bath. different metals and gasgets all cooling and shrinking at varied rates. seems i have seen this myself on a couple of wombat trips. diffs aren't the only bits that ingest water. I no longer love mud as much as i used to. It is fun. but you pay the price for it.
sill level would have water well over the top of the sump, yeah?
good luck. check that oil.

Oil came out a bit black but not milky or contaminated. My engine is getting stripped down this week so hopefully we can find a direct cause for the symptoms. Even though I've been deeper before, I'd really like to know what happened here so it doesn't happen again!!
