hey all, just wondering if i could get some advice on if it's worth paying someone with experience or to just have a crack at it myself...(an SAS conversion on an 89 surf that is.) i have experience but none with serious chassis/suspension swap, this'll be a first for me. got a good idea of the whole job itself, just never attempted anything like this.

thanks in advance..! :)

If you have some good welding skills, and you are confident that you can do the job without hassle, then go for it.

If you have doubts about your abilities to do it properly, then get some help at the least, or pay someone to do it.

Theres plenty of threads on here, and other forums, that have lots of info, and pics about doing the job. Members build threads are good for this sort of thing too.

Thanks for the replies guys. sorry for the lateness. :S

How much have you been charging? i am sydney based, have been looking at a few sas kits that i can purchase and probably axle out of an 86 solid axle 4runner.
what would your recommendations be? i was leaning towards a leaf setup to keep it simple.

haha..yes, i WOULD feel more comfortable getting someone that has done it before to do it... dont mind paying. just want it done properly :)

Here is one from Locktup,

Thanks,

Where in Sydney are you??

Theres quite a few places that could do the job...
Lukeys 4x4 Customs in Llandilo.
Black Bull Offroad in North Richmond.
Seldom Seen Customs in the Camden area.
HiTech 4x4 in Penrith.

Im sure theres more around. But these guys are all capable of doing a great job.

I know a few guys that went from a Lux to a Pootrol, only to sell the Troll shortly after and get another Lux again. Expensive decision I think.

No idea on a dollar figure, maybe do some ringing/emails to the places I mentioned.

will do,
thanks again for the info.
yeah, i don't feel right buying a nissan... i do want it because it is a weapon though. on and off the road. if i SAS the lux, i do want more power though. i did a 2.8 conversion in the surf, great crawler, but still slow on the roads. lol.

do i stick with diesel you reckon?

ill give a few of the places a call tomorrow and see what they say.

cheers!

yeah, i'd want more torque. not have to ride the clutch all the time... but rb25 fully worked pulls a pootroll damn well :P

yeah its rb25det, with eboost 2 tuned with exhaust, running a standard troll gearbox. alot of people been telling me to steer clear of this pootroll, hmmmm. i must admit it is very well done and tidy.

5" old man emu suspension lift with 3" body lift and 1 " spring spacers
lager rear lower control arm bushes and longer larger panhard bars
steering dampner
arb bar with a warn winch both remote and wireless
ceiling console kitted with the lot, cb, speaker, dvd etc etc
dash pod with jvc dvd
rear storage unit with draws
racks with 4 projector lights
rod holders and side awning
front mount with bov for the RB25det
brand spanker pink tuff excedy clutch
new radiator
35" tyres and spare set of 33" tyres
rear work light, rock sliders, custom rear bar and custom 3" snorkel pointing backwards
custom diff protectors
custom sealed airbox to accommodate the high flow pod fully plumbed to snorkel
rear lockers
all engineered papers supplied
front panhard bar secure brace

hmm the body is fair, minor rust but average 4x4 spec. lol asking 5k for it. worth it you reckon, anyone?

thanks

You may wanna check the engineer papers as I don't think 3" body lift is legal, that and a total of 9inch lift even if you do have papers the cops will prob defect you anyways.

Id stick with diesel, more torque. They might be slow on the road, but its something Im able to cope with, fit a turbo to the diesel engine for a little more on road power.

A diesel Lux is never going to be a rocket ship, but youll never get a speeding ticket. But chuck them in low range and they become animals.

If alot of people are telling you to avoid the Pootrol, then there must be a reason.
You dont know the history of the Troll, it may have been flogged, and if so, it might need a rebuild.
You know the history of the Lux, SAS it, youll have soo much more pride in it.

Just my 17cents.

Hey again, DUDELUX.

I managed to get ahold of Dave from black bulls 4x4, had a good chat with him. has anyone had their trucks there that you know of? he gave me a few figures and is going to help me out. didnt manage to get onto any of the others as none of them answered.

yeah, i've decided not to buy the troll.. i do love my lux to much lol, toyota all the way.

thanks again for the help, ill be sure to post up the progress.

hmmmmmm coilover or leaf... coil will set me back many arms and legs. :?

i never liked the idea of lifting a body that much. yea.. probs gonna steer away on this offer. cops in Sydney are pretty tame on the 4x4 community though.

Youll be happy working with Dave.
I havent had any work done by him, but there is quite a few on here that know him, and hes helped them out. And they all have only good things to say.
Ive seen some of the work he has done, and it looks good.

Ive spoken to him via PM about a few things a couple of times, and hes been too happy to help.

Go leaf front, alot easier to find a leaf Lux front to use as a donor than a Bundy coil front.
I have also heard something about if the vehicle is leaf rear, any SAS must be leaf, coil rear must be coil front. Dave could confirm this though.

Sent him an email as he requested with a few questions including the one above, just waiting on a response.

guess ill have to look into that and get it sorted.

yeah hes a real nice guy... very friendly and seems very knowledgeable. glad to hear that...

thank you, again.. :D
