GU 4.2 TD getting warm but have been playing

Post by chips59 »

As above, the Old girl is getting a bit warm lately, normally sits on around 85* but has been getting to 105*, cools straight down as soon as you level out or get on the flat.

Now I have been playing with the inlet air, I have increased the inlet to the air box to 100mm, bigger snorkel and out of air box to 80mm.
I have not increased the fuel at all.
Have also noticed it takes more time to spool up.

So, could this be running a bit lean and making the temps rise?

cheers.

this sounds odd, but bigger might not necessarily flow as well as you hope, through turbulence or no bell curve on the lips of outlet etc? - if its taking longer to spool up and getting hot im guessing its your new intake system.

if the air is restricting somewhere - less air = richer mixture = more heat. and could also explain laggy turbo.

but could also be entirely unrelated...

thanks for your reply, you could be right so will look into this.
You would think bigger would be better.

cheers.

It is but if the flow pattern isn't as good it can effectively restrict flow. It wouldn't be my first guess normally but since that's what's changed it's where I'd start.

Check to make sure you dont have a boost leak between the turbo and intake as this will make temps rise and power fall. do you have a pyro & boost guage fitted ? as this will show you things have changed .
