rear disk conversion - subaru rear caliper question

Hi, just wondering for all those who have done a swap using subaru leone calipers if they know what the maximum rotor width that could fit in these calipers would be? I know the patrol rotors usually used are around 18mm.

I am looking at fj40 rotors which are 20mm for a possible full float rear swap. also wondering if this caliper setup on fj40 rotor may run into issues with not being spaced back enough from wheel mounting surface.

The Subaru rotor is designed for an 18mm disc with a smaller diameter than the patrol rear.
That said a 20mm will fit into the caliper as the pic below shows - plenty of room around the patrol 18mm I had in the pic.
I haven't tried fitting a 20mm rotor but I'd guess the only issue would be when it had new pads fitted it might be a tight squeeze. Old pads wouldn't be an issue I'd say.

The Subaru rotor the caliper is designed for is 242mm and this shows how the 315mm diameter of the patrol disc isn't ideal but still works well enough.

I, and others I've seen do the conversion, have ground a little out of the caliper to get a better fit on the patrol disc.

This might help you with the offset - at least give an idea of how it sits fitted to a Hilux

thank for the info and pics. I was thinking part used pads would be ok, but am curious if new ones would work also and also if the piston in the caliper can be wound in too far possibly.

I don't think they can wind in too far. The threaded rod they go on has a lip at the bottom and it extends to where the o-ring sits so I don't think the piston can wind in past it. Be careful of the boot when pulling it apart too - I couldn't get a seal kit for them in Aus. Ended up getting two shipped from ebay US FOR $10 each.

thanks for the extra pics

whats the US model that these calipers line up with then?? also as i recall from researching a few years back there are a couple of slight variations in the suby calipers/models maybe even piston bore size, does anyone know of this and if there are different pads to suit?? or are they same on both.

This was the description of what I bought. They aren't available anymore though (only bought them in Jan)
85-93 SUBARU DL GL LOYALE XT FRONT CALIPER KIT
The actual part sent was a bendix 66404 seal kit.
