Gu diff ratios

Hi guys,

Just wanting some advice please. I have a 2000 model gu 3ltr patrol manual. I run 35 & 36 inch tyres, 5" lift, dp chip, 3 " exhaust etc etc. ive just put a new clutch in about one month ago and want it to last. Im finding that i need to use alot of revs sometimes along with half riding the clutch to get the old girl rolling. Ive done heaps to this truck as its my pride and joy and like to do things right and once only. Question is, what pro's/cons will i face by going to bigger diff ratios. Im thinking 4.6 or 4.88, not sure what will be best & how much of a difference it will make. Does anyone have a similar patrol and done a similar project? Was it worth it and the dollars? From what ive read 4.88 may be hard to source. I have a professional lined up for the install but need to come to a decision. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Its more than likely 4.1 ratios standard. H233 or H260 41 on the tag on the firewall.
4.6's should be about right, 4.88 may be too deep for highway use, unless you do lots of towing or like sitting on 90kmh or revving hard.

The 3ltrs had 4.3 ratios and the 2.8ltr have 4.6 ratios
