When running a rear mounted radiator in a buggy /truggy, are the risks high for getting burnt if a hose lets go or over heats and blows the top???

No ...
Most of the plumbing would be stainless steel, with a couple hoses at each end, which are mostly shorter than a stock setup.
100s of racing buggies etc with radiator sitting inches behind the seats and no incidents that I know of.
There's always a risk of a radiator "blowing it's top" but if it's behind you, and you're moving forward at the time ... pffft!

If you're worried just put a guard between the seats and the radiator. Very simple to do.

Yeah Perspex guard is the go. I will be making one for Gut's buggy later on when time permits. Tranny/auto cooler & radiator lines if possible I would recommend braided lines where flex is needed.
