Hi guys, sorry to post up yet another thread about the td42t.
i know there is a heap of info on the forum and the gu bible and also some good reads on the patrol forum but i wanted to share my first thoughts and my wish list and see if im dreaming or not.(i have searched
)
ok so its a 2000 st wagon with 290k on the clock, 5th gear is blown but as far as problems with it thats about it.
engine is completely stock apart from the new airbox lid i made last week, its running a safari snorkle as well as the usual draws, bars , racks, sliders and 2 inch lift
this is my new work truck and i have ran 2 full tanks in about 2 wks and im getting 15.5l/100km. now thats with my truck weighing 3t+ with all my tools/ladders etc and i have been towing a half tonne trailer around basically everyday. also did 200 odd kays towing around a bit over 1.5 tonne.
i wasnt driving it crazy hard nor babying it, just drove to the conditions.
im running 33's and have 3.9 diffs and my speedo reads spot on so i got a genuin 505km out of 78l this arfternoon which i though wasnt bad considering that was all stop start city crap towing a heavy ass trailer around.its quite a lugger but my last gu was a blown 5.0l so the power is a little lower
when i bought it i done basically a full service, all oils, filters and greased everything.
so basically my plans are to in this order
1-boost and egt gauge in the pillar pod set up to see what its doing because it doesnt feel like its boosting at 8psi, you cant even hear the turbo..
2- 3' exhaust/dump pipe
3-new injectors
4- pump tune and up the boost to 12-14 and just see what the temps are doing
5 then intercool with a medium sized top mount set up down the track(i have all the piping and bends just need the cooler and scoop.
the tappets are getting done on the wknd which i have been told if there out they can affect performance/ecconomy slightly.
im looking at getting around the 100rwkw if possible and keep the fuel at around the 12-15l/100km mark.
when i change the gear box il also be changing the clutch to a saffari tuff as the guy i bought it off couldnt tell me when it was last done and with all the extra ponies and towing i cant imagine it lasting much longer..
if theres anything i missed or any extra pointers im all ears, iv always owned patrols but they have all be petty's on gas and all my knowlage about the td42 comes from reading everyones info on this and the patrol forum.
oh it also feels bloody awsome to finally be in a sort after big rig:armsup:
cheers
