Has anyone heard of a new overlander being made/released? Just curious as I saw "something" with 31" (give or take a bit) AT's wearing a late model commodore station wagon bodyshell driving around SW Sydney last week.

Nope, I've seen crusiers and patrols with less clearance than this thing had.

Your mission should you chose to except it (and you will) is to get photos of this 4wd ;) now get out their and start driving around, and don't come home or log on until you get those photos.

Failure to complete this mission will result in you being laibled a BS artist and all knowledge of your existence will be denied

:D :D :D

There were a couple(?) of VN commodore wagons built in Perth some years ago with 110 defender Chassis. They looked very neat and were much more finished looking than most 4Xfreaks. Looked expensive though.

I think the biggest problem is that you couldn't really build one the same as an overlander (i.e with nice high clearance and without a full length seaprate chassis) as the separate subframey chassis thing onthe HQ's was what made it easier than a full monocoque.

And just like magic :D

"This is Brett's 89 VN Commodore wagon fitted onto a Nissan Patrol chassis.
It runs a supercharged 5L V8 through T700 auto and is tuned by Brett using Kalmaker 2 bar Street Pro 3.
It's a weapon on the street and off road.
Brett races it off road (sometimes) and has raced it in sand drags absolutely annihilating everything there including sand drag Harleys…...much to everyone's disgust".

Thanks for the pic, yes very close to this but white and slightly later model with the larger headlights (not as narrow) and no bonnet scope. The wheel size and ground clearance look about the same.

Hybrids

I recall seeing a few of these things around Perth in the 90's. The one mentioned and another on an 80 chassis. Best hybrid? An EH ute on a Hilux chassis. THe wheel arches matched perfectly, and under the bonnet, the Holden six loked like it rolled out of the factory.

Worst Hybrid? A HQ wagon on a 45 chassis. The Ford v8 was held in by the front mounts with the gearbox swinging in the breeze. The exhaust, had the manifolds bolted on backwards witht he pipe curling forward and out between the frame and the springs. The body was welded to the chassis via little bits of angle iron. The question? "I've just bought this. What will it cost to get it roadworthy?" Well after we all stopped laughing....
