g,day

im in the process of building my comp spec fj40 its got a 5L holden efi engine, i need to know how i should set up my fuel system, at the moment i have a 40L alloy fuel cell at the rear of the 40, i want to set it up with a surge tank, so would one 044 fuel pump be enough to pump fuel from the tank into the surge tank through the fuel rails than back down to the fuel cell, has anyone set the fj40 up like this before??

cheers brad,

you need 2 pumps 1 low pressure like a lift pump from tank to surge tank and the 044 from surge tank to fuel tank that what i have used in my hilux with 304 v8 but did not use a surge tank i just put a lift pump in the tank to feed the 044 pump to engine

i just used a 100 series sub tank, with a VN commodore fuel pump it bots straight in.
and works so far.

If you can submerse it in the tank and run suitable fuel lines then a Walbro GSS341 will do the job very nicely.
Normally cosat between $130 and $160 depending on where you go.

Cheers

You'd still need a swirl pot in the tank or your wasting your time.

For a reliable system using the original tank that will ensure no fuel starvation you need a low pressure lift pump from tank to externally mounted surge tank to feed high pressure pump (044) to fuel rail. Return fuel from pressure reg to surge tank, return fuel from surge tank to tank return.

What problems would you get without the swirl pot Ray?

Its just that I run a Walbro in a standard V6 tank and pretty certain it doesn't have a swirl pot, could be wrong though.

Cheers

It should have a swirl pot if the tank was from an EFI model which it was. It's just a baffled section for the pick up to sit in that will hold fuel in it when you're cornering or climbing/descending where otherwise fuel would be sloshing away risking damage to the pump when running dry or the motor leaning out. Of course this is more of a problem when the fuel levels get low. Some carby tanks you can get away with because of their shape, but a stock 40 tank is pretty flat and would really need an internal swirl pot/baffled section if you were going to try using an internal pump.

Most likely does have one then.

One thing I have noticed is that the Walbro is only about half as loud as the Bosch 044, can it be submersed in the swirl pot?

Run the walbro intank pump, most tanks are baffled unless your running standard cruiser tanks lol but if your going to run a surge tank you could just make it a twin turbo 5L and make use of the bosch 044 pump and surge tank :D

Ive just got a bosh inline pump, plumbed into original FJ45 fuel tank. Supplys my 62lb injectors x 4 at 45psi all day everyday. Never had an issue, been like this for over a yr. I just silver soldered a 6AN fitting onto original pick up pipe, mounted pump level with bottom of tank and plumbed up. The pump sits about 8 inches from the tank and level with the bottom.

KUSTOM.
