Ok so just doing some more wiring in the cooks car, I planned on re-wiring the BOSH HEI distributor in, But upon having the cook pull it out I notice is a Mallory. I'm not to familiar with the performance of the Mallory Electronic Distributors, but they do have a rep of no slouch. So what do I use? I wanted to do a big clean up and get rid of the ballast resistor and the old style coil.

I have done a light search and found that the Aussie V8 seem to lean towards the HEI, but I have to take in the consideration of the time factor for a working unit already in the car.

Oh the cook has a 2shity3 red in a 40 series, I've stripped most of the crap out of the truck so more wiring to be done, we already have a new HEI distributor in the shed.

So what should we do? Mallory or HEI?

cheers guys,

I put a HEI dizzy in my 308 years ago, at the time it was the most readily available, actually I think it was the only one available with housing to suit Holden v8, everything else was made for Chev/Ford configuration only.

It's a fairly easy job to pull it and replace it, I would maybe just check the condition of the contacts inside the dizzy and leave it as is.
