OK guys, im in the stages of drawing up my next build. Im doing away with chassis and panels... way over rated.. ..... 4 seat buggy is one the cards

I want to shorten my adaptor from the th700 to hilux t/case.. I currently run a marks adaptor ( AND WOULD NEVER USE ANYTHING FROM HIM AGAIN ITS A PIECE OF SHIT)... has anyone done this out there.. do i need to respline the gearbox output shaft further??? I want to bring the t/case as close as possible to the tranny so i get a longer rear shaft as the engine will be fully behind the front axle... T/Case will also be flipped 120' so the output is on the left side for the front shaft to match my mogs..

Hey mate, yeah you would have to get the output shortened and resplined. I'm in Seven Hills and have a standard 4l60e output if u want for free. You could machine an adaptor out of alloy and countersink the bolt heads but the two top bolts for the rear of the box would interfere with the two top bolts for the transfer.

Have you considered a 4l60e? They have a 6 bolt rear tail housing (not 4) that would allow you to counter sink the bolt heads in the adaptor without interfering with the 6 transfer case bolts. They're also 38mm shorter than a th700 and have a few upgraded parts. Full manual kits from the US are $300 or you can get a B&M electronic shift controller for $600 and have paddle shift. Lol

I measure the sleeve that connects the trans to the t/case... I can cut 2" out of it so that will shorten the shitty marks adaptor 50mm... Any gain is a good gain..

I made my own adaptor to suit the T700R4 to Hilux tranfer (with the help of a few club mates with wicked machinery)

Made a coupler sleeve to mate it together, 23 spline to 27 spline, had it nitrided for strength

I used the Hulux "R series" extension housing

The adaptor is bolted to the end of the T700, out put shaft has had 25mm cut off the length

All bolted together

I made tube cross mambers for both the auto & the transfer case.
Works a treat, has no vibrations and is smooth as.

locktup 4x4 do those kits also!

Whats wrong with the Marks kit? I was considering buying a similar kit off them. Pm me if you dont want to post details

My marks adaptor comes loose and strips bolts out of it all the time.... I know a lot that have the same problem, big white fridges marks adaptor lasted 10 mins at TTC 2011 before it ripped every bolt out of it... They leak, I have to tighten mine every trip.. I have braced mine back to the T700 mounts to try and stop it from twisting but nope....

Sorry, but that doesn't really make sense. I don't have any of Marks stuff so can't comment on the quality BUT the torque is transferred from the gearbox output shaft, through the coupler (in the Marks adaptor) to the transfer case input shaft. The coupler is obviously intended to spin on its bearing to do this. It's the two shafts and the coupler that do the twisting, not the adaptor.

If the adaptor is working lose, it can only be that the engine mounts allow the engine to twist more than the transfer mounts allow the transfer to twist (or vice versa). I chose to use the Advanced Adaptors through Locktup but they would do exactly the same thing in your situation. Given that your rig is for comps, you could try hard mounting the engine, box and transfer. Should fix the problem - unless your chassis twists.

I'm not affiliated with Marks in any way but they've only given me helpful advice in the past and I think it's great that some Aussies are having a go. I would recommend red loctite and spring washer and blue rtv but I imagine you already got that covered.

Yep engine mounts have to be bomb proof, I made mine using GQ trailing arm bushes and I have cross members for both auto and transfer case.
Locktight with spring washers for adapter and the 4 bolts on the end of the auto (that bolts to the adapter) are twice as long plus the bottom 2 bolts go through and have spring washer with nuts on them.
My set up doesn't leak.
