Im toying with the idea of replacing the t700 auto in my v8 powered hilux with a gear box from a landcruiser

Now i can pick up the 75 series box and adaptors need for $550 but condition of the box is unknown.

What issues will i face in fitting it into my hilux ?

Will the tailshaft angle cause any issues on going the side angle needed with the rear transfer output

I all ready have the fuel tank relocated to the rear spare tyre area.

Any help appreciated

Thanks Gav.

Wouldnt the V6 4Runner box be a better option Gav??

Dont quote me on this, but isnt the size/strength of the 75 boxes (1hz box) similar to the v6 runner box, its the 1fz and TD boxes that were the "beefy" cruiser box.

If ur interested i have a 1fz 75 series box at dads, 90 tho on it. $350 and its yours, has t case too

Thanks ray but the v6 4runner ones are chain drive transfer and in wanting to stay away from that.

depending on the condition of the box im looking at and weather or not the 1fz box will bolt up to the same bellhousing ill let you know about the box you have.

which box do you have behind the ls1 ray ?

which clutch are you running ?

H55F from 75series are a pretty tough box, much stronger than R151 from Lux or foreskinner, but a box from an 80series is better IMO, though if length is an issue, I think the H55F are shorter

Length wont be an issue

Will the h55 and 80 series box use the same bellhousing to go onto the turbo pattern holden v8 ?

I'm running the factory 1fz 80series box (has 350k on it now and still going strong ) clutch wise I'm using the 12" 1fz clutch as well. It's an exedy hd.

From the clutch back is standard 80 series gear cept the clutch is heavy duty

I don't think so, but not certain. Someone like Marks, or Fellow can probably answer that for you.

H55F have a weakness with 5th gear, but otherwise I think they are pretty tough.

I'd suggest you check out transfer case gearing options too, I think there is lower gearsets available for split case transfers vs 80series transfers, worth considering if you want lower gearing, patricularly coming from driving an auto.

80series all used H15x series gearbox.

Petrol (1FZs) and turbo diesel (1HD-T, 1HD-FT) used H151 with a 300mm clutch and 14spine input shaft.

N/A diesels (1HZ) used H150 with 275mm clutch and thinner 21spine Input shaft

Gearing is lower in 1st and 2nd gear in the H150, otherwise, apart from input shafts, they are the same in every other way.

You could use the R151F gearbox with the chain to gear TC adaptor

I ran the R151 & chain driven transfer case behind my 5lt turbo V8 for 8 years with no problem at all, smashed diffs, clutches and axles but never the transfer case.
Now I'm running a built T700R4 with the chain driven transfer case behind it.

If you go the r series lux box you can convert from chain drive to gear drive but it does cost a bit
To go this way you need
-r151 box
- chain to gear drive adaptor-$529
- Change to 23 spline input into transfer or 23spline crawler gears (what adaptor needs)-$295-$600
- top shift conversion-$229
So without buying a gearbox it will cost $1358(going crawler gear option over changing input shaft)

Off locktup prices..

Cruiser would be stronger but alot bigger and heavier.

Just my thoughts
