Rear diff ratio's

G'day All,

I have a rear wheel drive off road race buggy that currently runs a 60 series rear diff with a 4.11 diff ratio, I am after a higher ratio, somewhere around 3:1. I know you can get a 3.7 for the 60 series but it woun't be high enough. I'm aware I will have to replace the whole rear assembly which is fine. I know rovers run a 3.54 but they are weak as piss, strength is also an issue. So any ideas what 4wd came out with a strong, high ratio??

Thanks

Probably too big and heavy depending on what vehicle you're running but Dana 60 and GM 14 bolts came out with some very tall gearing. Down to 3.73 (41/11 teeth) and 3.47. They are a huge and VERY strong diff in the 14 bolt

Dana 60's and 44's go as high as 3.31. I've got a D60 here - PM me if interested.

Ford 9" have 3:1, 3.25:1, 3.5:1 and up.

What about Ford 9"? Sounds like you will be up for a custom housing, and Ford 9" have heaps of ratios available. 3.08:1 is common in road cars, or I had a 2.75:1 on a panelvan that had low 1st & 2nd gear box ratios

x2. 9inchs go down to I think 2.5:1 from memory. multi choice in housings and centers, spline count etc. would be a better choice

Ok, I don't really want to make a customer case and custom axles, as this is a low budget vehicle.

But interested in the 9" fitting the toyota housing. Is there a 9" centre that would fit the 60 series axles or would I still need custom axles?

Not sure about the axles, I "think" if using ARB lockers you can change the ford side gears to toyota side gears, you would need to do more research. I have seen a few cruisers using 9'' ford diffs and detroit lockers in cruiser housings with the studs moved to suit and toyota axles.

Patrols have a 3.5 gear ratio. they where used on 4.8 patrol auto GU's.
I ran a set of these for a while, geared the 6.5 turbo nicely.
these gears are huge and would stand up well. they fit the H233b rear diff.
