They only have 1mm either side new. Inwould suggest the mecahnic wants to avoid owning the warranty job in 2000km because the clutch crapped from being disturbed.

A clutch can last a long time or a short time depending on how's it's used and abused. I read that you said your old man doesn't ride the clutch etc so it should last longer than 95,000 kms but if it is showing signs of wear and if the box is already out it wouldn't hurt to invest in a new clutch kit.
On one of my Pizza delivery cars, a 2005 Mazda 2, the clutch lasted 55,000 kms before it failed completely. Obviously that was not expected and was the result of it being abused by drivers. When it was removed it was absolutely farked .. burnt out basically from driving with the foot on the clutch or using the clutch to hold it on hills in gear (up the road from us is a set of trafic lights on a steep hill so I'm guessing that's where the damage has been done).
Anyway as an aside, if it's got one of those stoopid dual mass flywheels (not sure if D Max's do but a lot of cars do these days it seems) then get rid of that at the same time.
