Hilux 1-UZ g/box question

Hi gang

First post, please be gentle ....... I'm in the part's gathering stage of a build on a 93 extracab . I've got the O.K from the MVR mob the engineer has been consulted and is happy . 105 series Landcruiser diff's and suspension front and rear (going for a stock look and I got it all cheap), Rolling on 35' tyres, 1UZ and manual

My question is will the bellhousing from a VDJ79 Landcruiser (the v8 diesel)bolt to the 1UZ ? I haven't got the engine yet and from all the pictures I have seen they look similar, I have a complete gearbox and transfer from the cruiser, again scored cheap which, if it bolts up would be sweet .

Also my daily is a bolt on modded VDJ76 wagon set-up for touring. so if the gearbag won't work on the lux will be a great spare for the wagon

Cheers

Did the engineer approve the track width increase the 105 diffs will create?

I also doubt the 1UZ will connect to the bellhousing you have.

Cheers

The engineer is quite happy with all the mod's, I went ready for battle with list's of notes and pic's of already completed cars to find his biggest worry was engine mounts which I considered to be a minor hiccup with what is available out there .

Hulsty

I'll find the pic of 1UZ and take some of the 1VD and g/box bell housing

The VDJ gearbox

May need to find more detailed pic of 1UZ, obviously dowels don't count, similar shape, stsrter in asimilar place, same amount of bellhousing bolts . I must add I have not seen a 1UZ in the flesh (?) so overall diameter may be different

Crikey, they look very close.

I'm very surprised that they look so similar! You really need to get some square on photos though and you could scale it and see if they are within a bulls roar, or just get them side by side, 1UZ looks smaller overall though and the starter hump looks lower on the 1UZ

I would be great if someone had a 1UZ engine laying around and could measure the diameter . Even if it is close I guess it wont be hard to adapt, box should be tough enough as I imagine a 4 litre petrol won't make anywhere the torque the diesel makes

Sorry for the delay.
Better late then never as they say :finger:

Didn't realise the focus was shitty on the first two pictures but you get the idea.
And didnt realise it wasnt perfectly centred haha, trying to hold the tape and camera at the same time was fun.

320mm (approx give or take a mm, you have check of the pic.)
Image

335mm (same again have a gander at the pic)

335mm (same again)

Now that I look at these pics, I probably could of put a little more care in getting better measurements for you, but I was too excited to trial fit my new bellhousing to my engine haha.
So if you want more precise measurements, let me know.

76 tourer is there a particular reason you want to go manual or just for the fact you have one?

Thanks heaps Ethann I'll get out, measure it up and report back if it might work or not .

The reason for the manual is mainly as I already have it ... I bought a 79 series V8 wreck ( drowned bent front diff), at the time thinking I would transfer all the running gear into the Hilux but the engine wasn't worth repairing so I'm using the brakes, diff centres bits of the chassis. The 1 UZ is a bit of an after thought coz they are cheap and have room for improvment oh ! and lighter than the 1VD

In short it won't bolt up without work, but is do able with some thought

In the first photo Ethann took
320mm vs 382mm on VDJ box

Second
335mm vs 412mm VDJ box

Third
335mm vs 378mm VDJ box

As is often the case if it looks to good to be true it probley is.. Thanks again Ethann
