60 series diff strength

I know everyone ask this question. But I don't wanna build my truck spend $$$ on it only to break. I thinking bout running 60 series diffs converting one front diff to make it rear steer. But even with long fields how strong are they?

That depends.

On 33" they will be strong as fark.

On 40" tyres you're right on the limit of their strength in a front axle scenario. Going rear steer adds much more load and stress that a front very rarely sees.

The size of your intended rig will make a difference, as will the HP your engine will pump out.

Too many variables to answer accurately.

I broke 3 rear diffs on bald 34's in a shorty.

I did a rear pinion and both longfileds in my old moon buggy (1360kgs with a supercharged v6)

I wouldn't use them again. Nissan can build a diff centre, just nothing around it.

You'll break any Toyota or Nissan under it then

I've got GQ Diffs and I'm sick of the front and am replacing the shit bits (all but centre) with Dana60 gear.

No BudsCustoms is making me a custom "Competeion" housing with a H233 hipinion Nissan centre with Reid racing knuckles (strong after market dana) with 35 spline axles and long field Uni joints

My Dad is on his third diff in his 60. He keeps busting teeth off the crown wheel. 31s and a healthy turbo diesel, he drives it hard though.

Then the mesh of the gears is enough!

What about 60s with nitro gear sets and longs? Should handle 42's alright?

He needs to have someone who knows how to set up a diff properly do it, or he needs to learn how to drive without breaking his shit!

Odds on the pinion depth is up to shit when they set it up and probably too much backlash.

I'd say no.
I had a supercharged v6, t700 and an lt230 with 60s diff centers , longs and 6 shooter knuckles with 40" comp treapadors. I broke both longs and pinions.
Years ago I had 40s with 34 simex and broke about 6 rear centers in that.

Toyota has after market support in the USA and that's cool but Toyota gear is really only good for 37/38s with a 4cyl in my mind. Any bigger or more power (3RZFE Is a powerful Toyota motor and guys on 37s break longs with them) and youll break any Toyota gear.

Gq/Gu diff centers are stronger and I've seen them cop 40/42s all day every day.
Hence why my new Diff is running all the best Dana gear in a Buds Custom housing with a GQ/GU Hi-Pinion 4.3 centre.

So you reckon stocko nissan centres are stronger than aftermarket toyota gear?

Thats a question, not a challenge :)

I trust em enough to build a custom diff around one lol
I've never seen or heard of a Nissan front failing in the front

Iv run hilux and hi pinion 80 series in both my comp trucks and only ever broke 2 centre in 7 yrs... however i broke :bad-words: loads of long fields and every other chromo brand too just about... when i went to rear steer running 5lt V8 auto twin hilux cases and 42 irocs (radials) i couldnt keep axles under it for more than 10mins...

Hence i went to Mogs... however i seem to still break those to...

If you have the money build it right the first time and have a high 9 with spider 50' knuckles built and sent from the states...

I seen more hi pinion pootrol cantre break than 60 series one if there build correctly that is...

just my opinion and its not really worth much.. :finger:

I broke both CV's outer balls on 38" Baja's running 5:29's in a dirty diesel 40 series with manual box. Suspension was seriously loaded up though. They went bang trying to catch the 40 slipping off the rock ledge. Auto & manual can make a big difference sometimes.

There's the problem! Heaps break hipinion front Diffs in the rear, cause there in reverse.
Still haven't found a front hi pinion breakage (gq/gu)

Why don't you take a stock new gu/gv for a drive.... I give it 10mins with you.......

Iv had 2 nissans mate.. a GQ which was great fun to bash in the bush and only bought it to tow my lux, and my latest Nissan... ill never buy another nissan as long as i live... nothing but troubles, but i wouldnt buy a hilux these days either.. I hate to say it but if i was to get a new 4wd to wheel, it would have to be a JK Jeep..
