Turbo 700 auto conversion to 75 Series

Gidday,
Can anyone tell me the best way to fit up a turbo 700R4 behind a 6.5GM TD? I have this engine in a 75 series cruiser ute and goes unbeleivably well but I'm sick of the 5spd. The engine has a mountain of tourqe and at very low RPM so the auto sounds like the go. The ratio in the T700 is also more appealing for highway cruising. Would appreciate any input/advice....

Hey mate, I'd be surprised if even a built T700 could handle 900Nm for long. I'd be inclined to use a 4l80e or a 6l80e (if you've got the $).

Either way, speak with Marks4wd or one of the companies who do the Chev diesel conversions.

Yeah, though engine pretty tame at 530NM tourque - 8psi boost. Will chat with marks. Just not overly sure about the cross member fitting, kick down cable assembly and shifter set up etc.

If you decide to go the T700, manualise it and run a B&M style ratchet shifter. The electronically controlled ones (4L60e) can be controlled by a stand alone computer - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/B-M-SHIFT-PL ... 2524wt_952" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - they also have a better pump and an extra band in the 3-4 clutch pack as standard. They can also be manualised.

I used to have a T700 behind my 6.5 in my old rangie. Firstly get it built right, from memory mine had Z pack clutches(??), beast shell, deisel governer (important for shift times), corvette servo piston, usual T700 mods need doing (i could have it wrong but think thats what the bits were called), low stall converter (which i still have in the shed if interested), actually my bro in law has the auto, its done about 1500klm, pretty sure he'd offload it. Oh its a VN one so no electronics except for lock up of the converter, which you can put a switch in, i never bothered.

Thanks Damien, will be very interested in the converter and auto if your bro in law wishes to let it go. Whats your opinion on the auto vs manual for the 6.5? My engine broke a crankshaft with the manual, but im convinced it was more than the gearbox that caused it! Yes big bucks, big piss off!! the engine 12 months out of warranty and only 18400km's on it....
The manufacturer said the autos are much easier on the engine..mmmmmm

In reply to 91Mav: Thanks for the info, whats involved in manualising the T700? Im not overly familiar with this type of tranny. Thanks for your advice guys, much appreciated.

You'll need a manual valve body, I'd go a b&m magnum grip over a ratchet shifter ever!

If it's hwy driven etc I'd be leaving it a regular auto and putting a gate shifter in

Thanks evanstaniland I'll swat up on the T700 a bit more and look in to it. Apparently the stall converter should also be set around 1300rpm for the chev diesel. Any thoughts on the transfercase adaptor? does anything need to be done to the output shaft? and also what about the cross member mounting bracket? does that come with the adaptor kit or need to be custom made?
