I'm run'n 33's on some re-set leaves to 1.5-2inch higher and 2" extened shackles. Everything seems to work ok.... the steering was a tad bit more receptive to turning on freeway but no major drama. Anything bigger than 2" extention plays too much with the steering camber(think thats what it is??)... have heard of people buying wedges to put under the leaf pack to correct this, but not sure where to get them or even how legal they are!!!!

Lift blocks are easily engineered to 2" anything over that the engineers start getting really picky with shifting weight load of body etc, so I'd only go with the 2". And you'd need 12 blocks too, just incase you needed to know.

If you need an engineer, contact Athol Mullen at,
Mullen Automotive Engineering
24 Newcastle St
Cardiff 02 4956 8030

This guy is really good, have a chat with him and he'll give you all the info you need for engineering req'ments.

Hope thats of some help. :D

BTW, what tracks you gunna tackle up the wato's????

You'll need 12 blocks for a 60.

2 inch shackle extensions are the norm, and that will give ya approximately 1 inch of lift. It will decrease your approach angle ever so slightly, but should allow the suspension to flex well.

If ya wanna run 35's, 2inch body, 2 inch suspension will do the trick!

Athol Mullen will not allow extended shackles, already asked. Talk to Hypo, he knows of some reasonable engineers ;)

Dodgy doesn't matter when you have a certificate in your hand does it :D If engineers where straight down the line you would be defected in brand new dunnydores though

2 foot body lift, that's HUGE!!! :D

i've talked to that mullen's bloke before, he was soooooooo anti-bodylift! wanted heaps of tests done, brake test fully laden, unladen, tested to failure, front disengaged, rear disengaged, plus heaps of other stuff

Thanks fellows
2inch body and 2inch shackle it is
As for the Wato's we want to try Slippery at least - I've got up there... Standard
But I won't if I can't get a bigger car than a zook
I'd also like to look at rope road, rock at the end s'posed to be a doozy but hey 60's go anywhere
Alright thanks for that guys - if anyones interested in Wato's PM ne by tommorow arvo - I'll be on around 5ish and I'll PM you'se the meeting Place
Another thing - Original bolts in the body/chassis but they look like they have the reach for 2inches of Lift
Advice? New bolts?
And would I need to buy new shackle pins?

By shackle pins do you mean the pins that locate the fixed eye of the leaf to the chassis?? When we do ya shackles the whole shackle is replaces. The pin is at the other end of the leaf, and wont be touched. You dont realy need new pins, though when we have ya car up in the air i could check em if ya worried bout them.

You can simply punch out your original pins and re-use them. thats what I did with my last ones.

as for the bolts for the body lift- you will need new ones. The originals wont be long enough for a 2 inch lift. Having said that, 4 bolts are about 2 inches longer than the other 8, so you can use these 4 to go in the place of the shorter bolts when you put the lift blocks in.

If you are worried about strength, get a slightly bigger bolt diameter wise than the originals. Drill out the chassis mounts and rubbers. Up to you really, although its probably easier to get bolts with the same diameter as the originals.
