i did a search but cant find what i am lookin for
i got a 93 lux witha 2.8 D and 5speed manual (g52) and the gearbox shifter is sloppy(wigles around a lot) so i pulled it out to have a look.
know there is a plastic bush at the bottom which i should be able to replace but there is a pin that holds the shifter into the housing. but within the housing there is freeplay( like a twisting feeling)
my question is..is there a bush inside that can be replaced? is it as simple as knocking the pin and and replacing it?
also the breather is built into the housing. i plan to drill it out and tap it for a fitting so i can add a breather to the gearbox. has anyone else did this and what size fitting did you use intot eh alloy housing?
cheers old lux

I know it's a good idea to have a breather on gearbox but both (2 different) g52's I've had on my truck over the last 8-9 years I have never got water into the box. And have done alot of water crossings through the years
But tappin it out and running the hose through into the cab or into top to engine bay

I pulled the shifter off a g52 once and found the pins the shifter ball locates itself with to be moving around the gear stick housing where they are press mounted. Solution was to grind the head off the pin and knock them out. Then tap the housing (it's alloy cast) and replace with appropriate length small bolts to stop movement of the pin in the housing as well as seating them a little further into the shifter ball.. Ended up being a worthwhile solution.
You can buy the shifter seat and bushing from lowrangeoffroad in the states. Can't help you with postage cost as it was on top of a larger order. I haven't fitted this yet to my gearbox but have read it's a worthwhile mod.

Bud every time I drain it full of water. The ute is always under water. All diff breathers are on top of the headboard on my tray. If I go 4wdriving and don't end up with water in the cab (4-6 inchs) at 1 stage or another I wasn't going to the right tracks or wasn't going hard enough.
I might see if I can chase up another shifter with a better ball and seat or just replace the bush and deal with ut

Fair enough.. Just saying but it is a good idea but I've never got water in there.
I now have bilge pumps in my lux to help with water coming through doors.

Cheers for the bilge idea. I just removed all the interiour to remove all the sound deadening and painted in fish oil so it shouldn't rust.
Where are the pumps located and any photos

Yeh I'll put up some pics tomorrow, basically moved my drivers seat all the way forward then put it just infront of seat on drivers side. (so it does not interfere with pedals) and put one on passenger side floor directly behind fire wall (my ecu is just above pump thus why I have bilge pumps)
I just wired them up to a two way switch because they are pretty fast pumps.
I ran the hoses along side of centre console (duel cab) behind drivers seat and up rear cab wall with a boat fitting so it goes through above fuel filler.

Cheers. I removed the stick and got the bush out today and the pins are loose so going to try put a bush in and hope it solves it
Also knocked out the breather so going to get a fitting welded in for the breather hose

Cheers brad. Looks a bit bulky for my perpose. But if it does the job it does the job.
Going to go a few smallest pumps I think (whale pumps) and have 3/8 or 1/2" hose

Yeh fair enough, they don't take up hardly any room, especially drivers being in front of seat (don't notice it's there)
They are 1/2" line..
But gives u the idea.

Only going to put 2 I think near the back doors on the outside of seats and 1 under each front seat all exiting out the back on both sides
