HJ75 2H motor Oil Filter Housing

After painting the work carpark black yesterday, it turns out I need a new oil filter housing. Apparently the previous owner somehow managed to get the wrong filter to stay on, and it was just luck that it held on for this long.

It's at a mechanic's place right now as I'm stranded away from home, and for some reason I can't get out of him whether it's supposed to be a screw fitting filter or a cartridge.

Does anyone know of any wreckers sort of local to the Canberra area that are likely to have an oil filter housing? Or a 2H lying around that I can pillage?

Normally I'd just throw my hands in the air at this point and suffer some Toyota wallet rape ($450), but even they reckon they can't get one overnight. I really really don't want to be stranded here over the weekend, as accommodation costs are mounting for one thing.

They use a "screw on" type filter. Just google search a 4x4 wrecker around Canberra and give them a call.

You can try them, but I have read on other threads on this forum that there are no good ones in Canberra

Yes, that's what I'm finding out.

Thanks for the link anyway. Turns out Toyota will have the part tomorrow morning.

I hope they do use a screw-on type. There seems to be some confusion in this area. The one that came off was definitely not a screwie, unless it was in a state of falling apart for some reason... *lightbulb* THAT's what must've happened! The top came off the filter. That would explain why it came off as soon the NRMA guy tried to unscrew it, and would also explain why the new one wouldn't go on.
