Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Thought I'd chuck a few pics up here in case anyone was interested.

I've been on the lookout for a cheap secondhand high mount that I could disassemble and take the brake shaft away to work with me to drill and tap the brake shaft on the lathe, later on I could then clean up and sell the second winch, be a good little project as I do fly in fly out work, 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off so have time on my hands.

I advertised on Gumtree and local Tassie 4wd forums, while I was in with the engineer picking up my mod plate and engineers report this morning got a call from someone saying they had a winch just like the one I pictured in the Gumtree ad, and was wanting $200 for it. It had apparently been in storage for about 10 years and was in a shipping container with some of his dads old stuff. You can imagine my surprise as it was unearthed from under the gear stored on top of it.

It was apparently mounted to a Landrover with a PTO setup which would explain the lack of solenoids for forward/reverse or a clutch system on the pump.

Didn't get to speak to the creator of this machine, just posted the pics up here because as someone who loves to have a play on the lathe ( an ametuerish play at that) I was really impressed with the thought and machining that had gone into this, so thought i'd share the pics regardless of how practical it may be. Although I'm told it had been use.

Plan is just to whack a electric motor back onto it.

I couldnt imagine it would be overly fast being driven off the PS pump (not sure what it's off, looks old)
Would be simple enough to find a 2/3 way valve to reverse flow to give in/out for the winch.

Otherwise, someone has put some handy work into it. Good find.

How much you want for the motor and conversion?

I run PTO now, and with this perhaps i could just run a variable displacement pump off the PTO box to uncuouple the winch drive speed from the wheel drive speed.

Back to a very standard looking highmount, there were no permanent modifications made to the winch itself to allow fitment of the hydraulics.

Not really looking to sell it, kind of keen to have a play with this myself at some stage, just posted the info up here as I'd never seen anything like it before.

Running an hydraulic motor through a flexible coupling looks pretty odd to me.....have you ever tried the winch already? how does it work with mod?

hyd hi mounts were available new from warn at one point

Never tried it Mate, of the 10 or so high mounts I've bought secondhand over the years to suit parts/repair this one was in the best condition inside by far. I gave it a full rebuild and it's currently on the front of my Patrol with a few mods, air free spool, 6hp motor, bracing, breathers and Gigglepin shaft.

Cool, never realised that, I've seen a few pics of hydraulic low mounts they built but never a high mount.
