relocating 2H alternator

Hi guys,

I have a 1988 HJ75 landcruiser with the 2H motor and I am wanting to move the alternator from its current position (sitting roughly halfway up the motor) to lower down, roughly where they are on the 60 series. My reasons for this are that I want to put in an a/c compressor, and the mounting brackets I have are from a 60 series that had the a/c compressor above the alternator. Now my question is, will I run into any major problems by doing this, apart from the alternator being lower down i.e. will there be cables or lines that will now be to short?? From what I can see, the oil pipe that runs from the sump is a hard line so this may prove to be a problem, unless it is flexible enough. Is there anyone out there who has done this before that can give me a few pointers or has a couple of happy snaps of the process??

Cheers in advance

i got a hj47. 2h slugger
alternator is mid mount, air compressor is top mounted.
should be able to do the same to yours, same motor.

for 4wd mounting the alternator lower is silly.
mind you where mines at, recently replaced about 3years ago.
not bad for 24years, seen plenty of creek crossing in the last 5, might of kiiled it earlier, got a 100amp now, run the winch and all the other stuff on the bus.

Just get original 2H mounting brackets and fit it that way.Stock lines hoses etc will be easier to replace if the need ever arises.

Yeah I've got the stock brackets so I'm thinking it shouldn't be to bad to do. Its going in for a service this week so I might ask the mechanic about his opinion. I'd like to keep both of them as high as possible, so it may call for some brackets to be fabbed up for it

Mine is in the original position below the a/c. Had it re-coed about 5 years ago just over a $100 I then put a splash guard between the chassis and the body seems to have worked a treat.
