Rear axles

When out wheeling today and on the first hill I blew the right rear axle in my hilux. It was on the first hill. It wasn't a step just a set of wombat holes heading up on a 45* angle. I had both lockers on and the left rear and front right in the air as I was traveling forward the bang went the right rear with no warning no bouncing wasn't young it anything excessive didn't even rev any harder was just consistent.

Befor anyone asks its a ln106 duel can with a turbo 2.8 diesel, 5 speed manual,5.29 doffs with 315-75-16 claws at 14psi. Front Arb and rear spartan locker.

Any reason this would of happened? I feel I have been is worse situations where I have been rougher and it bouncing and so on. Only thing different was I had a passenger in the back seat.

Cheers cohen

thats what im saying the previous 'worse situations' could have fatigued the axles and the trip you mention put enough load to finish them off

I'd say unlucky, hilux's do break them from time to time but they just arnt that common for them to break.

Some times on old axles you can wear down the axle splines giving a little bit of play which can help them break.

I've pushed my stock ones pretty hard and never broke them but did break a upgraded cromo one.

The spartain lockers/lock rights do fatigue The axles alot more as well just by the way they load up and unload on the
axle. They do shock load them a bit, and as said was prob already fatigued..

Had a idea it was to do with the spartan locker.might throw another stock axle in and see what happens. With a air locker
