Hi all
My Volvo portals finally arrived yesterday. On the side of the diff is a small identification plate that reads "Ratio 11X32". Can anyone advise how this translates to the total ratio of the diff (ie. 5.99:1 or 7.14:1).
Any advise will be appreciated.

That sounds like the diff ratio - 11 pinion teeth and 32 crownwheel teeth (sounds like a strong setup). You divide 32/11 to get the diff ratio - which equals 2.91:1.
Then you need to know the portal reduction to get the overall ratio.

I think from memory that portal ratio was 2.19:1. The lower ring and pinion ratios were 3.45:1 so you have been lucky.
Check and measure the offset of your rear diff to see if you have a 4wd rear diff and not the rearmost diff from a 6x6. The 6x6's are almost centred which means the Rover A frame balljoint mounting bracket must be higher and you should use a 110 bolt on balljoint taper.

you've got the 5.99:1
diff ratios are 32:11 or 31:9
hub ratio is approx 2.06:1 but i forget what the cog counts are

Thanks all
I ordered the 5.99's, but was unsure what I had received when I saw the 11X32 on the diff. That clears that up.
Dabbylonglegs, the diff is offset to the right, not sure of the exact amount of offset. I will check tonight. However, I will most proberbly be using a new 4 link setup (front and rear) so the A frame ball joint mounting will not be required.
