engine choice/direction

so i need a heart transplant in the f dump.
i have a ridiculous amount of options,
the outcome i am after is a long distance tourer/bush hunting/crawler. so fuel economy is high on the list.
do i go diesel? auto? manual or petrol?
i will be travelling in some pretty remote areas.
my top options thus far are, in no particular order.
4bt cummins
6bt cummins
we crd 3 litre from a ranger
td4.2 mav/gq
fpv xr6 turbo
351 efi
351 mech injection
351 carb (i hate carbs)
4.6 super charged mustang engine (cheapish from states)
help point me in a direction, as im half way there to being able to purchase one.
nealry all those engines will require a bit of fabrication to mount, but i have oodles of room, and i will need to fab up up mounts for whatever gearbox i choose to run and transfer.
any pointers most welcome!
