Is there anyway from the engine number or or something on the auto transmission that I might be able to gather what year the 1UZ I have is ?
I purchased the engine and trans from an unfinished project that had changed hands a few times so the guy I got it from didn't know . Inchworm wants to know the year and model car the trans came from for a transfer adapter, I'm sure the engine and trans are out of Crown but I don't know the year .

I am not sure if you can get it off the engine number but I worked out mine was a 91-94 soarer from the number on the ecu. Maybe try over on lextreme.
Evan if you need an auto box I have one I looking at getting rid of (i'm in newcastle)
Cheers

James
Did you get the info from off the ECU or from the numbers ?
Did you get said info from Lextreme ?
Looking at random stamps on trans ECU I've spotted some Japanese writing and then 89.8.19 is it possible it's an 89 model ?
Sorry for all the questions but I want to get the adapter underway
Thanks
Aaron

I think it was the number under TOYOTA, and yes I think I got my info off lextreme which appears to be broken at the moment.
Evan I also have a spare crispy soarer engine which will have a rear sump on it - I got loads of useful stuff (some may call it junk) clogging up my driveway

The original plug leads have the build date printed on them.
That ecu is identical to mine 94 ls400, the earlier ecu has 1 huge electrical plug held in with a central bolt .
My guess would be 94-97.

Off topic, but is there a 1UZ combination, 4spd auto and transfer available without adapters? Or does some kind of adapter need to be used.

My mate had to use the snout off his surf auto on the 1uz auto, and chop the output shaft of the 1UZ auto down and then it all bolted up.

I think the ecu's that have the 'large' plug - 3 x 40 pin plugs are from toyota soarers - the number on mine is from a 91-94 toyota sc400
The plug configuration is more to do with what car it came out of than age i believe

As many factory parts as possible is always a good thing.

Not to use a gear driven but to use a chain driven you can use the surf auto extension housing with a couple of mods to the 1uz auto which is what I'm putting in my hilux, to use a gear driven transfer there is no way but using an adaptor behind either the surf auto extension housing or buying the full adaptor from the us.

Thanks for the replies guy's the plug leads confirm tis an 89 model so now I can order the bit I want . As mentioned above you need the extension from a surf auto and then an adapter for the the geardrive transfer . The adapter from chain to gear is cheaper than a full inchworm adapter but if you need to purchase the auto extension housing then there is not much in it (up here anyway) .
For the ECU pin outs and wiring diagram, so far it looks like I can use the pre 96 LS400 diagram (oh Lextreme is back up) which is a relief.

Sorry to dig up an old post
I've been thinking I might like to change my gearbox setup to mirror yours as the Aisin box looks tiny (i havent run it yet), is the a442 a full hydro box or doe's it require an ECU ? and the 2UZ bellhousing bolted straight up with little or no mod ?
appologies for the 100 questions

adapters are reasonably cheap and the boxes you can adapt have more options to play with.

Its all bolt together, no mods, my box is manualised, theres not a wire plugged into it at all. if you get an early box there is very little electronics in them, basically what lights up the dash for what gear you have selected and the solenoids to have the converter lock up
