Looking at buying a td5 to tow my comp truck. The one I'm looking at has 300,000kms on it are there any common problems they get with this many Kms I know the oil coolers are a common fault. Also how do the handle the heavier loads my car and trailer weigh 3140kgs and what's the fuel economy like
Thanks in advance.

I'd steer clear of it.

Whilst the TD5 can tow that sort of weight, asking it to do it with 300k on it already is going to get $$$ quickly. I had a Defender TD5 that I towed my tube buggy with and it did it well, but I assume you have JBell's disco-mog truggy which weighs far more.

IMHO towing that sort of weight should be done with a medium rigid truck.

Short answer, No.

3.5tonne towing capacity in Rovers is sort of like guys telling other guys how big their cawks are. In reality, it's probably more like 2.4

What's wrong with 2.4? It gets the job done. Your cat didn't complain!

I have towed a cruiser on a trailer with our 2003 Disco TD5. Towed it brilliantly and with some of the best fuel consumption I have seen out of it. I towed it from Brisbane to Rocky and it was magic. We have had the computer remapped, but fairly standard arfter that. Our has some 230,000 and we have had it since new. The only problem on the auto discos is overheating in the auto box which is solved with an aftermarket cooler...

Would I tow reguarily, maybe not, not a fan of small cars towing big loads repeatedly, but for the occassional trip it does it very well.

Food for thought

Thanks for all the response. Decided to go with a f250/350 or a chev truck instead
