Hi guys i've got a 1994 ford courier petrol 2.6

Every now and then refuses to start, it cranks but doesn't even try to fire then after between 3 and 20 trys it will fire. I've pretty much traced it to be a fuel issue because when i drove it from perth to sydney it broke down i checked the usal things when i disconnected the inlet to the fuel filter it was fizzing like it was blocked so i bi passed the filter? A port agusta i got a new filter put it on and have been running it on the best fuel i can lay my hands on. Also when i removed the old filter all brown crud came out!

Its been fine ever since but has started playing up again! Short of fitting a new tank i don't know what to do! Any one know of any liquid i can buy or should i just try drain the tank! I'm thinking of binning the fuel filter going super cheap buying two inline filters fitting one where the filter should go and poss one on the return!

Any help welcome regards gary

First step is to pull the old filter off and confirm you have a problem there. If it's semi blocked/full of brown shit (rust) again then you have to solve the problem in your tank. Drain it, remove it and either replace it with a good second hand one or get it cleaned/repaired by a professional fuel tank repairer. Putting another filter on the return is a complete waste of time as your filter on the supply side is still going to get blocked first and cause you running/starting problems.

Wonderful thanks for the tip what i did today was fit a see through filter. I drained the old filter seamed ok but this way i can be definate and can also see if its a pump issue or not if all else fails will buy a second hand tank. Don't want to if it can be helped as i'm travelling only using the car till i return to the uk!

When the fuel level gets low im guna try drain the last bit off and see if there is any shit in there! Im doing deliverys tonight so will keep you posted on the progress
