Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Some of you have probably seen my build up thread "project nuki"

I'm not trying to sort out tyres.

Looking at something around 35" for Victorian work, ie mud, shale, little bit of rock etc. This won't be a daily driver, just a wheeler.

Looking at the following in 15 inch

35x10.5 Simex ET

34x10.5 (i think) Simex JT2's

34x10.5 Swamper LTB

possibly even Baja Claws or X Terrains

Any feedback would be appreciated

Go the q78 swampers, I would only reccomend the LTB's for zook diffs, seeing though you have the strength you are kidding yourself running anything less that a full 35 incher

Talking about axles, i had a guy tell me yesterday that the MQ diffs are weaker than Hilux? i don't think so but is there any validity in this statement?

IF they make longfield axles for lux diff, what CV/axle upgrades are on the market for nissan??

If the answer is none then i'd assume Nissans are stronger

ive got no idea on the strength of the 2 but just because they make toy beefed cv's dosent mean they are weaker.
i just dont think there is enough market for people to make strenthend mq cv's. where there are a shit load of toyota's around

I was told yesterday that simex makes a Q78 centipede, that is all I know about it Moose.

I think that is is a waste of time building a car with MQ diffs only to run a tyre that is able to be run on a zook.

MQ rear diffs hang down WAY more than sierra diffs, so it will get pretty frustrating getting diffed out on "34's" (often 32.5-33.5) when a 31" tyred sierra diffed car sails past.

With Critta, the MQ diffs were necessary due to frequent part breakage with 36.3" swampers @ 2-3 PSI.

We spent HOURS smoothing and shaving the underside of the rear housing to gain as much clearance as possible, and I think all up we lost about 40mm over the stock Zook diff, (equivalent to 3" of tyre size)

part of the poin tof putting big diffs under a light car is that you ca run more tyre than the diffs can handle in their native environment due to the lighter weight on the car (and oftem less torque going into them)

I would look to a Q78 swamper (35.2") or a 36 12.5 swamper (36.3)
Avoid simex's unless you go to the new secret squirrel Q78 or 36 12.5. If you have simex's on a zook, I reckon you REALLY need internal beadlocks. When you get anywhere near the tyres working properly, they will have fallen off 5PSI ago.

and Jim, don't do any more work 'till you have the tyres you want on the rims you want and in the vicinity of the car
