79 - 80 series parts interchanging.

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone knows whether or not the spindle bushes and bearings from a 79series will suit that from an 80 series.

I have some sitting in the bottom of my tool box and my own 80 series has developed a rather wicked howl/grind/whatever (verified noise against a youtube video, identical sounds) and my research shows this to be the problem. If they are interchangeable, then I have some free parts (always good).

Cheers.

Spindle bush in the 79 and 100series have a needle roller bearing with the brass bush retainer, if u have both the bush and needle roller, it will fit, they are the same spindles, have used this set up before to fix that exact same problem

Cheers Dan

As mentioned, early stuff has a brass bush on the inner of the spindle supporting the CV, later ones have a needle roller with a thrust bronze bush.

Not sure when this happened as early full time 4WD 80s would seize the bush onto the shaft at speed and twist up the outer shaft on the CV joint (my brothers 80 did just that when his ex wife was driving) so they went from the plain bush to the bearings.

They are fully interchangeable AFAIK because all the replacement spindles we get for Landcruisers at work have the bearings fitted.
