Hey all,

Trying to decide on a turbo for my TD42 Mav.

At the moment its a N/A old banger. Im looking at doing a basic set up on a budget with the hope to add things later (Intercooler, pump, inlet manifold).

Looking at a high mount manifold with either the Garrett GTX 2860 or maybe the GTX2863. Im wanting to aim for around 200RWHP later down the track. But at the moment only wanting to run 12-14psi so not to outdo the standard pump.

My question is will the 2863 work alright at low boost on standard pump or am I better off with the smaller 2860? i dont want to sell myself short down the track. But on the other hand I dont want the 2863 to struggle and not perform untill I can afford further mods.

any help????

Talk to the blokes at United fuel injection, matty I believe is the fellow to ask for.
They did the TD05 for my ute, and its on boost nearly as quick as my old safari turbo was, makes a heap more power and doesnt run outta puff.
im running a pump from diesel central in gracemere, and they worked with united fuel to set the turbo's up.
they will be the two people to talk to about doing what you wanna do.

Cheers, Andy

Whilst I agree completely, as I am running the exact same setup I dunno how the garretts compare to the UFI turbos on price. He's after a budget build.

Although the OP could save money and use a std turbo manifold and get the good turbo...

As much as I would love to throw bulk coin at my mav the truth is I just can't afford it. How much do they hit you for the td05. I spoke to the guys at diesel central and he said I was looking at around $2800 just for the turbo. As I don't doubt you get what you pay for it just gets out of control real quick.
I ended up ordering a gtx2863, high mount manifold, 3" dump gaskets, oil and water lines for $2850.
I think it will do the job. Going to run a Donaldson air filter and 4" snorkle.
I think once I can afford a cooler and some pump work it will go ok. ;)
