custom 80 front diff help

Hi guys. I hered that if u make a custom 60 center flange and replace the original 80 series flange u can bolt a 60 center to an 80 diff housing. But would I have to bolt the 80 locker to the 60 crown wheel or are the splines the same. Any advise would be helpful. Thank you.

8.9" vs 8". 10 bolt vs 12 bolt. Rd132 vs Rd142 airlocker. Keep your 80 diff and build it up strong.

the easiest way to make a hybrid 60/80 diff would be to get a 60 diff and put 80 balls on it, get a set of longs custom made to suite the 60s spline shaft going into the centre.

You get the best of a 9 inch centre and the larger CV of the 80 plus the 80 series longs have a lot more meat around the bell compared to the 60.

Thank for the segestions guys. I can't use 60 diff cuz its not long enough to match the gq diff in the rear. I don't want to use wheel spacers ether cuz I wont the wheel to turn on the swivel hubs axis. And I thaught about using the 60 center cuz I herd there the shit. Iv herd u can change the side gears in the locker were the axles go in so I can fit the 80 spline in the 60 locker.

They are the same, inner diff centre spline on a 60 is 30 spline and inner 80 front spline is 30 as well.

That's why they would change the flange coz the axles cen be swapped over.

I can't see why you couldn't do it, you could also use 80 series axle tubes on the 60 diff and saves mucking around with diff centre. 60 fronts are stronger then 80 fronts but the 80 is high pinion which is s HUGE advantage over 60, you also have better ground clearance with 80 under the pumpkin.

80 diffs can be built as strong if done right.

I can see why he couldnt do it. 8" high pinion vs 8.9". May get away with trimming the 80. But realistically your looking at converting the full 60 housing to take coils, panhard, maybe high steer to free up the tierod mounts below (track bar from behind to in front). Lots in it. When its easy as to build up an 80 diff strong.

Your talking about .9" od so that's an extra .45" or 11.43mm on either side on crownwheel (top/bottom) it would fit, you can usually shave close to 20-25mm off the underside of a housing so why wouldn't it fit, or fill me in with what I'm missing?

But putting 80 axle tubes on a 60 centre housing would work easier

But I still agree with staying with 80 diff n housing..

There's only about 6mm clearance between the crown wheel and housing.

Na the hole idear is for the 80 cv streangh and the 60 center streangh. The buggys gonna have an a frame with air shocks.

If you want to make the 60 diff wider, use IFS hilux hubs. It will make it approx 3 inches wider, but will increase your scrub radius (technically how much the wheel moves forward and backward when you turn). If its only going to be 800-1000kg's, im guessing its a buggy and that wont matter?

Brad

Are they the size diameter tho? The strength of the 60 out ways the clearance grain of the 80. Time is cheap it’s easy to cut and swap face plates just time consuming

Same 30 spline axle

I have a buds customs front housing made I think 4" wider on short side axle and then both springs perch's moved accordingly to suit wider diff (ifs width) he was going to use 60 axles because they are the same but forgot the actual centre was bigger so the axle wasn't long enough. So I went custom 4" longer longfield.

I run a 80 series HP centre in it with standard length long side and custom short.

They are same axles only different length.

That's the downside to 60's, strong centre but weak axles.

There are kits available to run a custom chromo axle and 80 series long cv with drive flanges that goes into a gu housing!

If it's only going to weigh a tonne then there should be no issues. There are tuff trucks running the kits in Nissan diffs

It's a good idea, but it is also a lot of custom stuff when shit breaks. The average Joe wheeling with ya won't have a spare..... :bad-words:

Not if you use standard length 80 axles n cv's.
yes the housing will be custom but you will just need to put the rest together.

Get a 80 housing, 60 housing cut tubes off both and swap (make sure length is right) gusset housing so it doesn't bend and it should work ok..

Pretty sure there the same 30 spline axle only length is different, it's the 80 series cv that's bigger the axles really arnt the problem it's the cv's
