Wheelbase & ramp over

Post by Damo »

I've got my chassis stripped and on stands and was playing with a few ideas tonight. I have got the front axle position sorted but am not quite sure where to place the rear axle.

I wanted to put my battery and a spare under the tray but if i cut the chassis short like i wanted to both wont fit. I could leave the battery under the bonnet or leave the chassis long. But to get the departure angle i want i'd have to move the axle back. Wheelbase for the first setup is about 93" and if i keep the chassis long and move the axle it stretches it out to about 101". BUT if i do this my rampover (which is already not spectacular) will go to sh1t. I'll be running 32s with about 2" of lift and the drivetrain will be tucked above the bottom of the chassis rails.

After looking and thinking i reckon the go is to cut the chassis back, keep the 93" wheelbase and put the battery under the bonnet. Or get 37s :finger:

Just wanted to know what other's think...

Stretch it and get the bigger rubber :finger:

Can you get the battery to fit under or behind a seat?

No room under the dash, wiring heater box air con...

I'm trying to keep as much room inside as i can coz it's a daily driver. I'm also taking this thing to the cape mid year :D

I dont wanna drop the $ on tyres for the moment so i think i'm gonna keep it short. Otherwise that's what i'd be doing me thinks.

Its a longy- you've got stacks of room underneath the car between the chassis rails.

Vit auto + xfer + sierra xfer takes up some room. I'll get a better idea how much room i'm playing with once I get the body back on it.
