308 engine number

Can anyone help me in identifying my holden 308 which is currently sitting in my Rangie. I just want to know what year it is and maybe what it came out of, is there a web site i can go to or a book which lists these engine numbers the first 2 letters are QT + 6 numbers

any help muchly appreciated

The Q means its from a HQ,

the T designates 308 high compression, and the numbers after that are just that, engine numbers.

you need to look at the casting on the block..

Look at the top of the block around the timing cover..

you will see 4 numbers/letters stamped with a small clock looking stamp next to it...

the first two numbers are the day (1-31)
the next letter is the month (ie D would be April)
and the last number is the last number of year of manufacture..
(obviously for HQ will be 197X <--- your number here)

the clock looking stamp tells you the time of the pour for that day!!
