Are petrol and diesel long range main tanks for GU wagons the same? I assume the return pipework for a diesel re enters the tank via the removable tank sender/ fuel outlet unit.

Small hijack...

Anyone know if they sit any higher than a standard one? Or is all the extra capacity built onto the bottom, so to speak?

generally how many extra litres do they hold?

Standard rear main tank is 90 litres. Long range tanks are usually 145 litres. They are built to closer tolerances around the chassis/diff, ect.

On the tank I was looking at, it was on ebay from a Gold Coast 4wd wrecker. It happened I was on the Gold Coast approx. 24 hrs before the auction was due to end. I went to the wrecker and offered them $100 over the starting ebay price, as it had no bids on it. They said they could not end the auction early, but they could freight it anywhere. I asked to look at the tank. Taken out to the vehicle, and the first thing I notice is the LPG tank under the rear. I look under the side, and yes, it was a long range sub tank they were selling. I already have one fitted. I also informed them it wasn't an alloy tank, as the ad said, but an silver painted steel tank. I didn't bid on it.

And now to drag up an older post. Are the Long Ranger main tanks for the GQ and the GU the same? They are different part numbers, according to the Long Ranger website, but the same capacity. More importantly, will a GQ tank go into a GU?
