Recently inherited a 253 hilux running two thermos a crank fan and vn v8 alloy radiator. Just chucked in a 78* thermostat and consistently get 100-110* when driving and sitting still.
Everyone seems to have a differing opinion on what to run
Deisel 3 core hilux
Vn v8
Au with thermos
Custom $800 rad

I realise im pretty much gunna have to start over again just want to do it once not 3 times so if anyone has some first hand experience thst would be great.

V6 4 Runner/Hilux converted to 4 cores (about $650) and keep the 82* thermostat.

Add a fan shroud if it doesn't have one.

Cheers

Im' running a single core, tipple row rad with extra fins that keeps things cool... As above, about $650.

I'm assuming by 4 core you actually mean 4 "row"?

Unless you have 8 tanks on the radiator as well :/

I have a set of corolla fans that do all right.. Im yet to use the AU fans but I have them here just in case..

Just make sure the fan shroud seals well against the radiator. That was the issue with my 3.5L V8 Hilux.

Any pics of falcon fans and rad installed. I tried to fit the au fans today and there was zero chance of them fitting infront or behind radiator. Short of chopping the entire front end out of the car i csnt see how they would fit.

Ordering 52mm thick alloy 3 row vn v8 radiator
I think the 2 row 24mm one isnt cutting it. May also have some internal baffles added.
Also going to try a 72* thermostat

Fingers crossed

What model Hilux is it?

My old LN46 had a 253, all I did was put a rad frm a later model diesel, probably LN106 I think, had the hoses repositioned to suit the V8 outlets.
Even before when it had an abortion Hiace core it didnt get hot.

Always ran around mid to high 80s on the gauge when moving over about 60, started to warm up in traffic, but only because I had no fans at all on it due to space limitations with the standard Hilux radiator brackets. I e3nded up whacking a couple of little thermos on the front which kept it low 90s when stationary.

With a later body you should be able to fit fans on that rad I was using as I think the bay is a little longer.

Also make sure you have airflow through the bonnet, when I first got it I spaced up the rear of the bonnet off the hinges with 15 or 20mm RHS, and that was worth close to 10 degrees on the highway.

All of this was fine in 40 degree weather too, I only changed what was there because the engine fan nicked the rad when I went offroad once.
