Guys,

This one has my Auto Sparky and I both scratching our heads.........

Has anyone else fitted a GU Auto into a GQ at all. The car was originally a 1994 4.2 EFI GQ and we have fitted an Auto out of a 1998 GU 4.8 EFI.

I am having issues with the car wanting to take off in 2nd gear unless manually shifted back to 1st and I don't believe it is shifting into O/D as I notice no difference in revs when I turn O/D off.

Any ideas of where we should be looking or what it could be?

Should we have been changing the Auto Control Unit to a GU unit?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have a read of this, it seems getting the auto to work out of the original car is a bit of a mission
http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/nissan-p ... auto-85780

Marks also say on there website for engine conversions using the 5 speed isn't ideal as it expensive to make it work

Sounds to me like it is desinged to run on a can bus system and with out the whole system it won't work properly

Sorry that was a misprint above.
It's out of a 4.5 GU. I was told it was the same box???? Both are 4 speed but it appears the electrics are slightly different.

There both the same box. The GU 4spd has a bigger torque converter. Dont think there is much else. Sorry cant help with your problems though.
I wouldnt have thought it was smart enough for anything else.

My guess would be there is a difference in the control unit of the trans. You could try a GU control unit but I would think that the wiring would be different GQ to GU. You best bet would be speak to a good auto shop that's played with these things, maybe kewish(sp) autos or the one that's always in 4wdcraption mag I think its wholesale automatics
or get a GQ box
