Top shelf cage builders in NSW

Ok I've tried searching but struggling given the limited capacity of my phone whilst at work.

Trying to track down a "reputable" cage builder in NSW who is capable of meeting full comp requirements as well as getting as close to road legal as possible AND super neat, tidy, snug fitting install.

I'm not even remotely interested in guys unless they have the runs on the board and proof of good work as I will NEVER be selling this truck.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Haven't been living in the Canberra region for the last 3 years, but I think he'd still be around. Give him a call to confirm.
His name is Rod Kilby and works out of a farm shed just over the ACT NSW border near Hall. He's a welder fabricator and has been lurking in the offroad industry for ages. He used to race offroad.
He's preppared a few Outback Challenge vehicles, built cages for heaps of rally cars, did a full cage for my Jeep Wrangler (to CAMS spec) and at least 3 other Wranglers that I know of.

I can't remember the name of the small performance shop that is near 5 ways Islington. They deal mostly with speed way guys but they have heaps of knowledge of workshops around the area and they are great to chat with.

yeah. Pit crew is the one. I know they are into sprint cars but they know a lot of guys and have been around for a long time. A roll cage is a roll cage and can easily be built to spec from any design rule. The guys that are really good also make it a really tight fit inside the cab. The first time I did Out Back Challenge the scrutineer stuck his head inside my cab and then asked me where the roll cage was. It was such a nice tight fit he didn't even notice it to start with.

Kevin at Coastal Driveline at Charmhaven is a longtime speedway guy, surely he would have some local contacts for cage stuff.
Hes just up from Jamies shop on Arizona Rd, same spot as Bursons, but at the end of the driveway.
Another possiblity??

Toughnut - that's exactly what I'm lookin for bud, I want a super nice, tight fitting install yet still meets all the rules.
Who built that cage for you?? Was it tha pit crew guys you mentioned??

Hey Tony, yeah I do know Kevin real well, he's been doing my diff centre/locker installs, repairs and rebuilds for years. I might ask him.

Cheers for the recommendations Evan and the private messages on Facebook with even more detail.

Stilivin - What does em drive? Are you happy with the work??

Matt N - jeez that name is Rod Kilby is familiar, trying to think where from
He would be about 5-6 hours drive from me, which I'm more than happy to do if he's good, would you recommend enough to make the trip down??

Rob, Em that Stlvn is talking about is our Admin on here, Ferog. She has the hot pink chopped 80. Darren, Em and Ems Hubby did a great job on the exo.
She does have a build thread on here.
She is also driving in Willowglen I believe.

Yeah I figured that's who it would be, there's not many "em's" around.
I used to have her on Facebook, dunno why not anymore but I do remember seeing it around.
I just didn't want to jump to conclusions as to who it was in case I was wrong

Hey Elmo. I got the cage done up in Townsville in my old truck. I wouldn't pass scrutineering now though because the design didn't have enough cross bracing on the roof line to meet standards today. But it really was a super tight fit. They had to get 2 guys to jam it into place while a 3rd guy did the welding. It was all bolt in as well. When I rolled my truck at Outback Challenge the roof only caved in about 2cm on the windscreen. We just used a high lift jack to push it back out and all was good. The new windscreen fit straight in without any problems at all and the dents on the roof weren't very noticable at all.

Have a chat with Milo on here as well. He's getting very handy with the TIG welder and will be more than happy to take the time to work with you to get what you want. He's very particular to detail and he has a harem of midgets to keep you entertained while he works. :D He's down in the blue mountains but has a bed you could crash in while you're there and you'd have a lot more say in how things come together.

Dunno where you might have heard his name; most people in the rally scene around Canberra probably know of him. In the Canberra 4WD scene, anyone seeking custom barwork/fabwork who can't do it themselves has probably heard his name pop up when asking for recommendations.

As for distance, an old Jeeping mate trucked his Wrangler down from Sydney to have his cage done by Rod. In comparison, 5-6 hours is a long way for you to travel so some of the other recommendations closer to home are probably worth checking out first; but yeah, I would recommend him. I'm living in Mildura at the moment and would have no hesitation in driving 9 hours back to Canberra if I had a vehicle that needed a cage. That said, I and a few mates, have developed a working relationship with Rod over quite a few years so we are probably somewhat biased.

I tried to find a few examples of his work online but he is an old-school guy so does not have a website or updated facebook
A quick google for images found these links:

Whoever you choose, make sure you communicate exactly what your expectations for the job are.

Andrew's race cars

I havn't had any work done by him directly, but there was some nice stuff in his shop, and he was real easy to talk to. Gave a lot of his time to chat to me and never once looked down his nose at me when he talked.

Have a look at Sam from Overkill's facebook page as well, there's a bunch of his work in there and it's pretty damned nice.

Expect to pay for both of the above though.

M

I told him that you'd do it Milo. As long as he kept the midgets happy while he's there. :D

Not really.

We used his workshop, I designed the cage & bent it up, Jeremy did a fair chunk of the work, but Darren's assistance was still appreciated.

Darren does great work, he built my sliders, they are indestructable, so far.

I agree too, I dont know the full story of what happened, but thats in the past, and everything coming out of his workshop now is top notch.
