Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey everyone, am wondering what diff ratios are available that will fit into the PA Challenger (2001 Petrol Auto) in the area of around 4.17 instead of the stock 4.636...

Am working on a project and would help to run the 33's a bit better and work out the gearing differences with a 3.2 DID...(3.917 ratio)

Any help muchly appreciated

Hi FIS, I would imagine you would want shorter gearing to help push the 33's on the highway, & also slow things down a bit off road? as going from 4.63 to 4.17 will make it harder to hold top gear on the highway and speed things up even more off road.

The MK triton diffs are interchangeable and a lot of the petrol v6 models had 4.9 as standard, & this is what is usually done when fitting larger tyres.

The situation is the engine/trans combination is meant to be paired up with a 3.917 diff ratio and running 265/65/r17 wheels/tyres, but that engine/trans combo is now paired up with a challenger diff ratio of the stock 4.636 and running 275/70/r17 wheels/tyres.

Running this current combination the speedo is running fast by around 11% but with the installation of a speedo calibration to bring this back to usual unit the vehicle L/100kms display is inoperative.

Also, I think i would be able to achieve a better fuel enconomy with the engine speed reduced with the lower diff ratio...

At the moment the torque is AWESOME!!! but i think i have plenty of that and for the longevity of the engine and overall economy, I think things would be better with the lower diff ratios...

So Yeah, I am after something along the lines of a 4.17 diff ratio, rather than the other 4.9 ratio. But is there anything out there?????????

4.1 is the ML triton standard ratio, this vehicle runs the 9.5" rear diff.

BUT we have been able to successfully fit the 4.1 ratio into the 9" diff (usually 3.9 in the MN triton)
