TO make it short and sweet. Im budgeting around 12-15k to build a weekend toy. Its either going to be an 85 convertible 4runner or a LWB sierra.
To make a sierra worth my while however i would like to run 33's daily and from what i can tell that requires either Spring over axle conversion or goin down the route of using Hilux axles.
Anyone here in QLD been through this process before? it could save me alot of searching around for threads etc to find out whether this is even legal up here..?
Any help would be great.

You don't need to do a spring over to run 33's. Fit 2" lifted rear springs all round with a chassis extension on the front and 2" extended bumpstops or bodylift and cut+weld the guards till they fit.

Wot ee sed.
If it's just a weekend toy does it need to be legal?
The way things are now as soon as you bolt 33s on it's illegal unless engineered, regardless of suspension/diff setup. I'm not intimately familiar with Qld legalities now, but I reckon you're looking at trailer queen if you want 33s on a Sierra (or pretty much anything else outside of a JK with no suspension lift) unless you want to spend the money on engineering.
In a practical sense - 33s are relatively straightforward with a RUF and Virtual Lift (guard chop.)

Aftermarket axles and CV's are available too.
Should cost well under your budget.
