i have spray in tray liner in the rear of my vitara.. It is awesome. Tray liner is definately worth the $$$.
If you haven't got the $$ you can buy a thick rubber mat and cut it to the contour of the wheel arches.

I rolled on a DIY product called Herculiner throughout the interior of my G. It is similar to other spray on urethane products ( it is urethane not tar based, so it doesn't go soft) but can be applied yourself. It is very durable, and was about $200 for the whole kit, this was for 4L. This did the whole floor of the G, and up the rear wheel tubs.

The biggest disadvantage is that it is difficult to keep looking clean, especially inside the car where you can't hose it out. I scrub it periodically, and wet vacuum it out. Might be ideal with a flexiglass challenge rubber ute mat to keep stuff in place and take the biggest knocks.

She may need the scrubbing brush and wet vac that steve was talking about.

Back on the topic, If you go plastic liner spray some regular automotive stone guard in the ute bed first. This way the liner does not rub through the paint. (stone guard cost about $20 1lt) one tube does a Chev Silverado pick up box.
