No vin or manufacturers plates, what can I do?

Hey guys,

I bought a rolling shell ln106 for a project a while ago. The bloke who had it before me had it in the same state I bought it for 2 years in his shed (stripped and in primer with heaps of parts missing) . Half way through rebuilding a 5litre for it at the moment and have most of it painted (only cab to go, chassis guards bonnet and everything else painted).

I just went through and made a list of parts I need to get from the wreckers to finish it off, when I have noticed there is no engine or manufactures vin plates anywhere on the ute. Chassis number is still fine, hasnt been defaced or anything so I am thinking the plates were taken off when the body was primered years ago. The previous owner doesnt have the plates.

So my question is what can I do to get around this? I thought about grabbing some from the wreckers but the chassis numbers wont match obviously and pretty sure that is illegal.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Just go to the rta and inform the m .. You'll proberly have to take the car there for a compliance check then for rego slips you wk t need it. It's only need for a special code that'd on the plate .. And once you go into RTA they just put on your file that there us no plate and you don't sorry about it

OK I can't understand that either.

I think you should just contact the local rego authority, explain where you are at and that you have a chassis number but no VIN plates.
They should have a way to help you out, no doubt some paper work to be done by you and some solution issued by them.

Cheers

Sorry to here mate,

I had a similar problem with my 40, you will need to get it engineered for an LO1 from memory, there are forms on the qld transport website that you can print and start the process,

Alternatively if your car is later than 85, if you contact Toyota they should have the details on file and they may be of some assistance.

Reading this again im not sure if its an LO1 code, ill have a look in the morn and get post up with the correct code for you. If you need any help with getting it through call MDS mechanical in bundy, he has done a few of these.

you don't need to do anything if the car was previously registered with that VIN/Chassis number.

all you need is the VIN number and current engine number.

Just get a blue slip for it and go pay your greenslip and rego.
