Expedition Vehicles - Purpose of this section

Here we go...

A new section on Outerlimits!

The purpose of this section is to discuss expedition builds, and the trips themselves.
I think a format similar to the 'Members' will be the go.
So please start a new thread for each vehicle, with a name that can be googled by others - Such as 'Bru's Iveco Daily 4x4 Expedition Vehicle'

So what will we class as an Expedition Vehicle?
Look at offerings from Earthcruiser, Ridgeline etc. to get the concept.
It's like a Winnebago on a 4x4, AWD or 4x4 truck chassis ready to take on the world.

These can be used for longer term remote area travel, weekends away, or even have the vehicle containerised and shipped globally for cost effective touring of the world.
Having a home away from home removes the hassle of packing and unpacking out of hotels, hiring cars etc.

Feel free to include troop carrier fitouts etc., From Suzuki's to MAN Trucks etc, as I would really like this section to grow.
Ideally the vehicles are purpose built / modified and loved by their owners - rather than a standard work ute towing an off the shelf camper (there are other sections such as members for this).

I'll start posting pics of my build as soon as our first Iveco Daily 4x4 arrives!

Cheers,

Bru

Brilliant!!! Great idea Justin!

I dont own one but will frequent this section with much interest as i grew up touring the back tracks and deserts of this country in 4wd clubs and would like to one day do the same for my kids, so I will be in here on a regular basis checking it all out.

Why do expo vehicles need to be truck based? My expo setup can go anywhere, has a fuel range of aprox 1500km in the bush and will go places trucks can only dream about. So far the longest I have lived out of it is 3 weeks however it is only 6 months old.

Definitely, It should include camper trailers, set ups, discussion of all things related.
Not many have the $$ to buy (or build) a $100,000 - $150,000 off road capable expedition truck rig that sits around for 9 months of the year.
Not that theres anything wrong with that.

By the same token, I wouldnt like to see this part clogged with overnight tripping type stories either. Weeks/Months away and the related backstory on prep and then ongoinng issues whilst travelling is where its at.

hi I am in the process of restoring our Malaysian Volvo C304 (4x4) for the purposes of Jungle Taxi and camping and longer expedition trips including supporting our kayaking weekends away. It is getting water tank, new body sliding drawers, sleeping (hammock and basics) high mount radiator and intercooler, Diesel engine and two new winches.

This is now undergoing a full restore in a hospital In Malaysia. If you are interested I can post the story here it may help people with restoring an old 4x4 truck. I know there is 6-8 VOlvos in australia.

On its last trip in 2011 before the restore started
