Found this when looking on a photography forum, guys has built 2 expedition vehicles out of ex army acco's

Pretty damn sweet!

The raise verandah is tops! We have talked about using a Tieman lift (more of a joke then reality though)

That, whilst a good idea, would add a ton (literally) of weight for a decent sized verandah.
A fold down aluminium frame covered in marine ply (or similar) like pictured would be substantially lighter. Not sure from the pics but you could hook up a powered winch cable to operate from inside (edit- he's used gas struts on the upper- what if one craps out?- looks like the lower drops down and is held in place with straps- wonder how hard it is to lift again?
