How is it lads
I was just wondering what's the best suspension setup to have, The coils strapped in or to use dislocation cones. shortly i'm upgrading to 33 inch tires but was thinking i should get a diff lock with stronger axles first, will the standard axles cope.and is it true you should use engine oil in the 4 speed gearbox ? I have an 83 4dr rangie Thanks for the help. RANOVER

(1) I search here and on pirate4x4.com - dislocating suspension Vs fully retained has been discussed extensively.

(2) It all depends on how hard you drive. Maxi or JM diff lock will make breakage less likely. Again search - maybe under "aquarangie" - he has broken some 10 spline axles with an ARB locker.

(3) Yes, engine oil or really light gear oil like Castrol VMX80 in an LT95

Maxidrive axles and locker were the best thing I've ever done to the Rangie. Go the rear locker first to minimze breakage.

The reason that you must use light oil in the gearbox is to prevent failure of the oil pump (fibre gears).

90 weight is ok in the transfer, but often the seal between the gearbox and transfer leaks from the gearbox to the transfer (oil level goes up in transfer, down in gearbox. Some peeps run a hose between the level plugs of the gearbox and transfer to equalise them - if you have this, then run engine oil in both.
