1hz Diesel fuel cutoff solinoid problems

Hey guys,
I have a 105 series .2003 1hz diesel cruiser and I've got a problem, it starts beautiful when cold or I let it sit for an hour but then wont start when warm or hot ... stop start type of driving like stopping to fill up with fuel..
All my research points toward a faulty fuel cut off solenoid, which is connected to the immobiliser as standard on the 1HZ .. I have been quoted about $200 just to get it diagnosed then the repair could be anything from $700 to $2000. depending on what the problem really is
Has anyone had this problem? is my online search and self diagnosis sound correct/ and what did people do to fix the problem?
if a repairer was used... how much was the cost? if people don't mind me asking

Cheers for any help..
Eric

How is your starter motor?
Seen this type of problem before and it's generally been the starter is dying and can't turn the engine fast enough when hot.
Just a thought...

Have you tried temporarily hard wiring the fuel cut solenoid? That will tell you if it's in the imobiliser

I agree the problem is probably in the starter system. Start with a check of all the connections between the battery and the starter then load test the battery. That should give you more idea of where the fault is. If you are convinced it is the fuel cut solenoid check the connecions in that circuit too.

I'm convinced its the solenoid, she cranks hard each time so next
ill have to get the workshop manual to go much further myself..

Thanks mundy and old ed ..

Just a test, remove the fuel cut solenoid and take out the needle and replace.
It wont stop by the key anymore so how you manage to stop the motor is entirely up to you. :) If it starts every time, you have the problem somewhat isolated.

Does the immobilizer use scotch locks on any of its wiring?
They are evil and must be removed as they are prone to be intermittent over time.

I had the same symptoms in a 75 series I had, The fuel pump inside the injection pump was the culprit

Scotch locks ... what car doesn't nowadays. I'll check all the connections first as this is an easy check.... Mmm I'm not a fan of not being able to shut the motor off... so James while I understand its a way of determining the exact fault.
As this is my first diesel and I don't know a great deal about the nitty gritty of the workings... so I'm sure you'll understand that I'm hesitant. This is why I'm gathering as much info as I can. but I really appreciate you taking the time to reply..

76 tourer....... Boy am I hoping its not the fuel pump... if it is I'm up for big $$$$$ but cheers all the same

100 series have a big black box immobiliser thing on top of the fuel cutoff solenoid. PITA to get off.

but if you do get it off you can bypass the immobiliser and just run the ignition 12V wire to the fuel solenoid as per 75/8/9 etc.

Hey Guys,
Here is the result...
The immobilizer unit was bypassed, a new fuel cut off solenoid was fitted and hard wired to the ignition.
My next step is to add an immobilizer alarm system to it, which will actually be better as I will finally have central locking . So no more locking my keys in the 4bie.
Oh yeah.... the mechanic in the end came in UNDER his original Quote.. and passed the savings on.. he originally quoted ... get this... $169.00
After it was all done.. he only Charged me..$158.40.. Whilst I know that's not much. he could have easily said nothing and put a couple of extra bucks in his pocket... I'm in Melbourne so if you want his name P/M me and I'd be happy to let you know.

Cheers all

So the immobilizer unit was the problem or am I misreading.....
