NW Pajero Centre Diff Lock

I was wondering if anyone here has modified their Pajero (particularly late model Pajeros) so that the centre diff lock doesn't come on when in low range. My aim is to allow me to use low range when reversing a heavy load and place less strain on the clutch.

not sure if you can mate, I think the centre diff is mechanical in that once you shift to lo it locks the centre diff.

What I did in my previous NL was to ground one of the solenoids (yellow I thnk) via a dash switch. This gave me low without the front wheel drive but still had centre diff locked.

Thanks for your reply. I think that would be the way to go with the NW as well, but I am not brave enough (nor do I have the physical capability any more) to get under and start disconnecting things to see what happens. I was hoping that someone would have previously done this and then I would have assurance to do it myself.

You cant do it with the transfer due to the way the internal shift rail works. But you can disconnect the front diff via the actuators under the air-cleaner. Catch is it will throw an error code.

Thanks psproule. I would have disabled the front diff rather than try for the transfer box, and I was afraid about getting an error code. I have a scangauge II. Would that cancel the error code for me or would I have to go to my friendly Mits dealer to do it?
