90 Series Prado tech

Hi

This is a very noob question for the once mighty Outers but it is pretty quiet in here so...

I have a mate who has bought a 1998 90 Series TX Prado with a 2.7l petrol engine. He was led to believe it had dual tanks but now cannot find a sub tank switch or "see" the tank looking underneath. Now the kicker is he is living in Gaborone, Botswana so I can't just pop over and help the guy out.

There is a Toyota dealer in the town but he doesn't trust them too much. My googlefoo isn't coming up with any straight answers so has anyone owned this model or work for a car yard/mechanic/dealer that knows if there should be a second tank as standard an if so where is the switch?

And don't ask me what market the vehicle was originally built for as that seems unanswerable.

And yes it does appear you can be scammed by an African in person not just via email

Cheers Matt

G'day mate, are you sure it's an xt model?

As far as i know only RV models come out with the 2.7L (3RZ), and they are the base model of the 90/95 series Prados. RV's did not come out with a sub tank, only the GXL's and up did.

Hope it helps
Chris

Thanks

Seems only one tank. If there is a second one under there it has no obvious filler, gauge or switch

We have a GXL 90series, 3.4l quad cam. Its got a sub tank only as the main tank was removed to fit the lpg tank. If there was a sub tank in your mates, there would be a dual filler in where you put the petrol.

Thanks I found some images of what the filler should look like and sent then to him. No dice.
